Grand Bahama Island…what a paradise!

When you have the opportunity at hand to visit paradise, how do you say no? This is exactly what happened when I was in Miami Beach; my friends wanted to go to Orlando to visit Disneyland, but it didn’t seem very interesting and because I didn’t want to be left all alone in Miami Beach for a full day, I decided to go to the Bahamas. It is only few hours away so I had to do it!

When you are in Miami Beach, you can go to almost every gift shop and find a day trip to the Bahamas! You will travel before sunrise and return late at night, but it’s worth it in order to spend a day in paradise. Do not forget your passport because the Bahamas are a British colony. It’s like traveling out of the US and then returning in the evening (although the controls of immigration are much more relaxed than when we arrived from Colombia, because there are numerous people who make a trip to the Bahamas for a few days once they are in Miami). Upon arrival on the island, we were taken by bus to Port Lukaya Marketplace…

The marketplace offers the opportunity to buy some souvenirs, eat something in one of the many restaurants (my advice is obviously to try something typical of the place), and the possibility to admire the small marina…

A good tip is to go to the beach in the morning so you can realize that you are on an island in the Atlantic Ocean and to visit the markets and purchase the souvenirs at the end of the day…

Another option for a tourist is to take a boat tour around the island, an experience that I believe is a must! You’ll also have the opportunity to make a stop on a beach and throw yourself in the water for a good half hour or so. And while we were relaxing in this excess, we were approached by two large manta ray with a three in a half foot diameter. It was a shame not to have a camera handy.

I’m attaching another shot straight from heaven!
