New York City… The Big Apple!

There could not be a better way to end a vacation that had been already fantastic… so why not make a trip to New York City once you are on the East Coast of the United States? Even though we arrived in the United States a week ago, our first impression of New York City was like being in a movie. Everything looks exactly as you have always seen it on television. Our first evening in New York City was warm and rainy…

The best way to begin a long day in the USA is surely to eat a healthy breakfast. Obviously, we abandoned ourselves to local traditions, that for me is the proper way to do it. I suggest for you to do it as well and to try local cuisine. I asked myself, why not to enjoy an original American pancake with maple syrup?

On the second day, the weather was not the best but the skyline of Manhattan even among the clouds is a nice effect…

The first thing to do if you want to visit New York is to buy the New York Pass which is expensive. It is even more expensive that the London Pass, but the cost of each attraction in New York is very high; therefore, unless you want to visit them all from far away and from the outside, it is the best choice to make. (Order it directly online from the website newyorkpass.com) Our tours started from Time Square, the heart of Manhattan, either in the morning or in the afternoon…

… and on a classic double decker bus we headed toward Lower Manhattan and we enjoyed a nice tour…

We were dropped off near Battery Park, which takes its name from the artillery battery of cannons that were brought to defend the city. When you are there, you will have the opportunity to visit Castle Clinton…

Although you will not be that close, you can see the Statue of Liberty…

While in Manhattan, you have to ride on one of the numerous boats that can bring you almost everywhere, especially because one of the main attractions of New York City (from my point of view the most impressive due to its meaning) is located on an island, Liberty Island to be precise. I recommend the cruise that leads you to Liberty Island and Ellis Island, but if you have more time I also recommend for you not to miss Governors Island or even to go in the sailing ship around Manhattan. These are all included in the New York Pass and the show is guaranteed…

And after admiring the most beautiful woman in the world, Lady Liberty as they call her in the Big Apple, you can go to Ellis Island where you will understand what it meant to arrive in the United States in the past, by visiting what is today the Museum of immigration. In Ellis Island you can also admire one of the best views of the New York skyline…

Once back in Lower Manhattan, you can easily walk towards the One World Trade Center, which is visible even on a day with low clouds…

To visit the 9/11 memorial is another one of those things that you can’t miss; I want to give you one advice, do not be so dumb as to visit this place only for the immortality of a selfie. You have to respect the meaning it holds.  What I found really touching, is the idea of the great emptiness that the two fountains at the center of the memorial transmit. All the names of the victims are engraved on the edges and the cascades of water get lost in the center of the fountains. They are precisely where the twin towers once stood. You should visit the museum as well, which is full of the remains of the massacre that is one of the saddest days of modern history. For this reason, I will reiterate the point… respect!

Staying with the theme of Lower Manhattan, let’s talk about the Brooklyn Bridge. You can walk across it and let yourself be captivated by this beautiful structure and the panorama: the view of Brooklyn, the Skyline of Lower Manhattan and also the Statue of Liberty in the distance. If your camera has a good zoom you will have the opportunity for great shots…

Then, you will find yourself returning towards the city’s center and perhaps enjoying some views of New York City at night from one of the various decks available. (the Empire State Building, the Top of the Rock observatory, etc.) I recommend that you visit the Empire State Building during the day and the Top of the Rock at night.
Another way to have breakfast in New York City is to go to Cake Boss! Whether you are a fan of the TV series or not, there is a really a good reason why they call him so, then try it and believe it! The room is tiny and the waiting line is always consistent, but put aside the hurry and your wait will be rewarded. The easiest way to get there is to go down to the station of the metro Hoboken and then follow the aroma! 🙂 It is less than a five minute-walk from the station.

And now, with a full belly, you will be ready for the next line. I calculated that is takes approximately between 45 to 60 minutes to climb to the top of the Empire State Building and admire the panorama of Manhattan…

After the enjoyment of feeling that you were on the roof of the world, you just need to go in the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, a real dream for a fan of NBA basketball like me!

And another place you can’t miss in New York City if you are a fan of the NBA, is definitely the NBA Store, three floors of hard shopping! 😀

There will always be a million places to visit in New York City, but definitely one of the nicest is Madame Tussauds which is always included in the New York Pass. Here you will have the good fortune to see the Echto1 (Ghostbuster’s car) to preview the remake of the movie…

But of course, you can get your picture taken with your favorite star (wax figure)…

The perfect way to end a beautiful day in New York City is to rent a bicycle and to take a ride in Central Park…
