One week in California… Again!

California… 4-11 April 2018

One week in California was exactly what I was craving for at the beginning of April!

About a year and a half away from my first trip to California (California 2016), I came back here and I had forgotten how beautiful this part of the world was.

It was literally love at first sight in November 2016, and rediscovering the beauty of this region was like falling in love again.

Come back for one week in California again was really a good choice at all!

My flight from London to Los Angeles early in the morning, thanks to the time zone, allowed me to land in California at 9:30 am, with the whole day in front of me…

After having rented the car (which is essential if you are in this area), and have settled in our “classic Californian motel” (even this time we settled in South Los Angeles, out of the chaos of the center, not far from ‘airport and the beautiful area of Marina del Rey), we went out for a walk.

Despite the rather cloudy day, it was a pleasure to take a walk to Manhattan beach, for sure one of the best places to go in Los Angeles…

In the late afternoon, because of the jetlag, and not having eaten much during the day, we realized we were hungry; so we found ourselves in a Manhattan beach restaurant around 5.30pm for a late lunch or early dinner… but for sure the food was great, especially the dessert…

After dinner, if we want to call it like that, we came back to our motel rather tired and we fell into a deep sleep, waking up then in the middle of the night.

I guess in one week in California I slept kind of 30 hours in total!

No longer able to sleep, we decided to start our day in advance by going to the Santa Monica pier waiting for sunrise…

It was quite unreal to see the Santa Monica pier completely empty… I let you judge from the pictures…

After the sunrise, we headed to Malibu, where we stopped for an American breakfast. Malibu is for sure a place to visit in california!

Traveling the Pacific Coast Highway

After breakfast we continued traveling the Pacific Coast Highway towards Santa Barbara, stopping from time to time for a few shots… this area is really spectacular as I remembered…

Fun things to do in Santa Barbara

Once in Santa Barbara we went to visit the Country Courthouse, very beautiful both from the outside but also in the interior…

Do not miss the view of Santa Monica that you can enjoy from above the panoramic tower… 360°…

After that, we went for a nice walk on the beach and along the pier…

Back to Los Angeles, we made several stops to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Pacific Coast Highway…

Fun things to do in Los Angeles

The following day we were in the mood for a walk, so we started our day at Lake Hollywood Park, which remains the best place if you are looking for a picture of the famous Hollywood sign…

The more you walk, the closer you get to the sign, the better the shot you will get…

To continue our walk, we then decided to move to Griffith Park, but unlike many who leave the car in Ferndell Nature Museum at Griffith Park Parking and walk up to the observatory, we left the car not far away from the Los Angeles Zoo, going up through the North Trail, and enjoying a different view of Burbank and Glendale…

So, once we reached the summit, we found ourselves with the Hollywood Hill to our right, the Griffith observatory just below us, and the whole Los Angeles skyline in front of our eyes… shame about the day not very clear, otherwise the panorama would have been truly unforgettable…

Ghost Town, Calico, California

The following day, however, we went around this wonderful region, which knows how to give you endless views, passing by the immense beaches, the coast overlooking the ocean, the hills, mountains and even desert…

That’s how we arrived in the ghost town of Calico, a lost place in the middle of nowhere.

This city was born from the discovery of the presence of silver in the mountains that overlook it, at the end of the nineteenth century, but after that, in a few years, it saw the depletion of mines and the consequent escape of all its habitants…

So this small town with few houses and the remains of the mines over 100 years old, which today has less than 10 habitants, has become a tourist destination thanks to the fact that it is located in the most famous “on the road” travel itinerary of America, Route 66…

Really a quaint place, in the middle of nowhere, a stop that you can do maybe if you want to go from Los Angeles to Las Vegas… just a little detour.

Instead we decided to return to Los Angeles and enjoy one of the beautiful sunsets that this region offers, going to Redondo beach…

San Diego in California

Spending one week in California, arriving to Los Angeles Airport, you can easily elapse all the week to visit the city of Angels, but I wanted to explore even something else.

One of the reasons I love California is the variety of landscapes this region has to offer.

Having already visited the entire west coast from Los Angeles up to San Francisco on my previous trip, this time we decided to go south, always traveling the Pacific Coast Highway to San Diego, and stop at least ten times before arriving at our destination…

From Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point Beach, San Clemente State Beach, to the beautiful La Jolla Beach… endless stops to see as many endless wonders…

To get to San Diego and admire the beauty of this city, especially the island of Coronado and the panorama crossing the Coronado Bridge…

In the evening, returning to Los Angeles, we could enjoy another sunset as you can see from those pictures…

Drive a convertible car in one week in California

The last day in California was another day of sunshine, still in the mood of walks between Santa Monica and Venice Beach…

Fun thing to do in Los Angeles is for sure drive a convertible car along the coast… How do you not love this place !!!

I enjoyed reading about your adventure! If you had to pick your absolute favorite beach in Southern California, which one would you pick?

Hi and many thanks for the comment!
Oh, that’s a very good question!!! Can I pick all of them??!! Probably the area of San Diego has so many beautiful beaches, but if I need to pick just one, I might say Redondo beach in L.A. Which one is your favorite?
