Cartagena

Another dream come true! my Colombian friend had repeatedly told me about the beauty of this city, therefore, once I arrived in Colombia, I had to come to Cartagena. The problem was the 413 miles that divide Bogotá from this town on the north coast of the country. But finally I did it! After only a little less than 90 minutes of travelling, I looked through my window, and already understand that I had made the right choice!

The humidity makes 95°F practically unbearable. Just getting off the plane makes you feel like you have entered a sauna, but other than that there’s little to complain about. The part of the old town is famous for being surrounded by very well preserved walls, for a moment I thought I was in Lucca, Italy.

Instead we remembered that we were in South America, which is quite evident from some areas of extreme poverty in the city. One of the major points of interest in the city is the Castle San Felipe de Barajas.

The beaches are definitely not the best when compared to the ones in Santa Marta.  However, Cartagena is much desired by tourists so you will find more nightlife. This offers many choices on where to eat and spend the evening.

Cartagena

Un altro sogno che diventa realtà! Da sempre il mio amico colombiano mi aveva parlato della bellezza di questa città, così, una volta arrivato in Colombia, non potevo non  venire a Cartagena. Il problema erano i 1000 e più Km che dividono Bogotá da questa città sulla costa Nord del paese. Ma alla fine ce l’ho fatta! In fondo in aereo sono solo poco meno di 90 minuti, e già dall’atterraggio capisci che è stata la scelta giusta…

Il caldo umido rende i 35°C praticamente insopportabili, appena scesi dall’aereo sembra quasi di essere entrati in sauna vestiti, ma per il resto c’è ben poco di cui lamentarsi.

La parte del centro storico è famosa per essere circondata da delle mura molto ben conservate, per un attimo mi è sembrato di essere a Lucca…

 

Poi invece ci si ricorda di essere in Sudamerica, cosa che è abbastanza evidente da alcune zone di estrema povertà della città.

Uno dei punti di maggiore interesse è il Castello di “San Felipe de Barajas”…

Le spiagge non sono sicuramente le migliori, in quanto le zone di Santa Marta, a detta di molti, sono decisamente le più delle della Colombia, ma Cartagena è molto più gettonata dai turisti quindi è presente più “movida”; c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta su dove mangiare e passare la serata…
