350 gr flour
190 gr Butter
200 gr brown sugar
100 gr sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 pod vanillina
1 pinch of salt
200 gr Chocolate drops
For the snack of the sweet tooth today we prepare together Cookies, round and buttery biscuits with chocolate chips, made famous by many American movies.
Preparing them with me is really easy but it would be better not to be in a hurry…
One of the secrets to obtain the real Cookies is surely to follow all the steps, but above all to use the original brown sugar, the American one.
In a large bowl add the butter at room temperature with both sugars and mix well. Also add the salt and vanillina until you obtain a homogeneous and creamy mixture in which the sugar has almost “melted”.
Incorporate the eggs one at a time and immediately after the baking soda and whip everything until you get a frothy mixture!
Finally add the flour and chocolate chips and mix until the dough is homogeneous!
Now it is ready to be covered with cling film and put it in the fridge for at least 2 hours… In fact I often prefer to prepare it many hours in advance!
After that, divide the dough into balls of about 50-55 gr.
You can help yourself with an ice cream spoon to make small balls and press them lightly on the surface, not too much because they will tend to let go in the cooking process.
Then place them on a baking tray with backing paper. You can add a few drops of chocolate on top of the cookies to make them look more nice.
Cover and place the tray in the freezer for at least 2 hours until they get hard.
One of the secrets for perfect cookies is to cook them semi-frozen!
Now place the cookies on a tray well distanced between them because they will expand during cooking process…
Now you are ready to cook them at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes… the cooking time will depend on your oven but do not be fooled by the consistency because when you take them out from the oven, they will appear softer. Let them cool.
You can also keep some of the cookies in the freezer, to cook them on the following days when you want a breakfast or a delicious snack!!!
Once cooled, you can keep them in a tin box up to 5 days but I’m sure you will eat all of them sooner than later!!!
Tips and varieties
My favorite flavour of cookies is the one with the soft heart of Nutella. When you are making theballs you can simply divide a portion by creating two disks with a teaspoon of Nutella in the middle and then trying to give them the same round shape not too flattened!
For children instead why not replace chocolate chips with smarties?!
For my friend Laura I propose to replace the chocolate chips with pistachio crumble and Nutella with pistachio cream!
History and curiosity
As happened with the panettone, the Cookies recipe was born by chance, around the 1930s in Ruth Wakefield kitchen, the owner of the Toll House Inn Hotel, who had finished cocoa powder to prepare her cookies and decided to chop and add a chocolate bar to the dough, supplied by his friend Andrew Nestlé.
His customers were thrilled with this delicious new version with pieces of chocolate. Those became the most famous biscuit in the USA.
Andrew Nestlé began to produce chocolate chips. He supplied his friend for life, in exchange for permission to publish the original cookies recipe on the packages of her chocolate “Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate chips”.
From here we had many variants of cookies, double or triple chocolate, with soft heart, with dried fruit, with smarties, with blueberries, with coconut, with pistachio and many others but all of them with unique friability!
