Despite the London “lockdown” which, in our opinion, was quite ridiculous, the need to go out and do something different was growing day by day. So we decided to rent a car and start our tour “on the road” exploring the South East coast of the United Kingdom.
The first destination was Margate, a small town on the North East coast of Kent, about 20 miles north of Dover.
The city center is dominated by the clock tower and Margate beach, certainly a very nice place to visit, although we have preferred to continue towards the Botany Bay area to see the cliffs…
Here we made a nice stop and went to the beach for a walk…
Then we continued our tour going south, passing through Ramsgate, where you will find a nice marina, reaching up to Deal Castle…
For obvious security reasons, in this period, the castle was temporarily closed, so we took the opportunity to take a walk along the beach given the immediate proximity…
From there we continued first towards Walmer castle, unfortunately closed too, and then towards Dover, making another stop at St. Margarets Cliffs and Bay…
As you can see from the picture, the view is worth the little detour. From there it takes just a few minutes to reach Dover, where we stopped directly in the Marina area, as the castle was temporarily closed…
So we took the opportunity to take a long walk on the pier of the marina and capture some other shots with a definitely better view…
Once we left Dover behind us, we continued our journey toward south, passing through Hythe Beach, another nice spot along the coast, up to Hasting, yet another seaside resort in this part of the United Kingdom…
Our next destination, once we left Kent and access East Sussex, it could only be Eastbourne, A well-known tourist destination in this region, this city boasts a very nice pier, typical of the coastal cities of the United Kingdom, wide beaches and various tourist attractions…
In the Eastbourne area, we discovered what later becames our favorite destination; “The Beachy Head Lighthouse”…
Here you must go for a nice walk on the cliffs, even if is a bit hard, is definitely worth once at the top, both sides, the Belle Tout Lighthouse and the Beachy Head Lighthouse…
It takes just a few minutes, but intense, to walk to reach the summit, which will give you a breathtaking view overlooking the sea…
Just close by, if you are looking for another very panoramic corner, and you love photography, we cannot mention to you Seven Sisters Cliffs…
This area is really beautiful, especially at sunset or if you have a sports car; in this regard, take a look at our post on the Jaguar F-Type Convertible!
The road to Newhaven is really a lot of fun; always pay attention to others, because the area, especially on a beautiful sunny day, is always very busy.
Staying in East Sussex, we couldn’t help taking a trip to Brighton; this well-known tourist resort boasts over 5 miles of beaches, and several attractions, first of all probably the usual pier…

Continuing our journey toward west, we passed through Shoreham by Sea first and then Worthing, another seaside resort in the west of Sussex, and then we made a small detour to Arundel Castle…
Obviously we didn’t have the chance to visit this castle too, so we hope to have more luck in the future.
The next stops were in Bognor Regis, another resort with nice beaches, and Selsey…
Selsey is a maritime city located in the south of the Manhood peninsula in West Sussex. Even here we really enjoyed a nice walk on the seafront where, in addition to nature, we could see typical houses close to the beach with large panoramic windows…
We then continuing towards Hayling Island which certainly deserves at least a stop for some shots…
Our final destination on this tour was Portsmouth. Last but not least, from here will start our next journey to discover the rest of the South of UK…
[:it]Nonostante il “lockdown” londinese che a nostro avviso è stato abbastanza inesistente, l’esigenza di uscire per almeno una giornata e fare qualcosa di alternativo si è fatta presto sentire.
Così abbiamo deciso di noleggiare una macchina e fare un giro “on the road” esplorando la costa Sud-Est del Regno Unito.
La prima destinazione è stata Margate, un piccolo paese affacciato sulla costa Nord-Est del Kent, a circa 20 miglia a Nord di Dover.
Il centro della città è dominato dalla torre dell’orologio e dalla spiaggia di Margate, sicuramente un posto molto carino da visitare, anche se noi abbiamo preferito proseguire verso la zona di Botany Bay per vedere le scogliere…
Qui abbiamo fatto una bella sosta e siamo scesi in spiaggia per una passeggiata…
Poi abbiamo continuato il nostro giro andando verso Sud, passando per Ramsgate, dove troverete una bella zona della Marina e del porticciolo, arrivando fino a Deal Castle…
Per ovvi motivi di sicurezza in questo periodo, il castello era temporaneamente chiuso, così ne abbiamo approfittato per fare una passeggiata lungo la spiaggia vista l’immediata vicinanza…
Da lí abbiamo proseguito prima sulla strada che costeggia il mare, passando per Walmer castle, anche esso sfortunatamente chiuso, e dopo verso Dover, facendo un’altra sosta nella zona delle scogliere bianche di St. Margarets e della baia…
Come potete osservare dalla foto, il panorama che questa sosta regala, vale la pena della piccola deviazione.
Da lí bastano pochi minuti per giungere a Dover, dove ci siamo fermati direttamente nella zona della Marina, in quanto il castello era temporaneamente chiuso.
Abbiamo così approfittato per fare una lunga passeggiata sul molo della marina e catturare qualche altro scatto con una vista sicuramente migliore…
Una volta lasciata Dover alle nostre spalle, abbiamo continuato il nostro viaggio verso Sud, passando per Hythe Beach, altra spiaggia carina lungo la costa, fino ad arrivare ad Hasting, ennesima località balneare di questa parte del Regno Unito…
La nostra meta successiva, una volta lasciato il Kent ed esserci addentrati nell’Est-Sussex, non poteva che essere Eastbourne,
Nota località turistica di questa regione, questa città vanta un molo molto carino, tipico delle città costiere del Regno Unito, spiagge ampie e diverse attrazioni turitiche…
Sempre nella zona di Eastbourne, abbiamo scoperto quella che poi é diventata la nostra meta preferita; “The Beachy Head Lighthouse”…
Qui non potrete evitare di fare una bella passeggiata sulle scogliere, anche se in salita ne vale sicuramente la pena una volta in cima… sia dalla parte di Belle Tout Lighthouse che dalla parte opposta…
Bastano pochi minuti, ma intensi, di camminata per raggiungere la vetta, che vi regalerà un panorama mozzafiato a strapiombo sul mare…
Nelle mediate vicinanze, se siete alla ricerca di un altro angolo molto panoramico, e siete amanti della fotografia, non possiamo non menzionarvi le scogliere di Seven Sisters…
Questa zona è davvero molto bella, specialmente al tramonto o se avete una macchina sportiva; a tal proposito, date un’occhiata al nostro post sulla Jaguar F-Type Cabrio!
La strada, fino a Newhaven è davvero molto divertente; fate sempre attenzione agli altri però, perché la zona, specialmente in una bella giornata di sole, è sempre molto trafficata.
Restando nell’Est Sussex, non potevamo non fare una scappata a Brighton; questa nota località turistica vanta oltre 5 miglia di spiagge, e diverse attrazioni, prima tra tutte probabilmente il solito molo…
Nonostante Brighton sia ritenuta una delle mete favorite dai Londinesi, complice anche la vicinanza alla capitale del Regno Unito inferiore alle 60 miglia, possiamo affermare che non è di certo una delle nostre…
Continuando il nostro viaggio verso Ovest, percorrendo anche un lungo tratto di lungomare, siamo passati per Shoreham by Sea prima e Worthing poi, altra localitá balneare della zona Ovest del Sussex, e poi abbiamo fatto una piccola deviazione verso Arundel Castle…
Ovviamente non abbiamo avuto la possibilità di poter visitare anche questo castello, quindi speriamo di avere più fortuna in futuro.
Le soste successive sono state a Bognor Regis, altra localitá con spiagge carine, e Selsey…
Selsey e’ una città marittima situata nel punto più meridionale della penisola di Manhood nel West Sussex. Anche qui non potevamo davvero fare a meno di scendere dalla macchina ed incamminarci sul lungo mare dove oltre alla natura abbiamo potuto notare delle case tipiche a ridosso della spiaggia con ampie finestre panoramiche…
Abbiamo poi ripreso la marcia continuando verso Hayling Island che certamente merita almeno una sosta per qualche scatto fotografico…La nostra ultima meta di questo tour e’ stata Portsmouth. Ultima non per importanza, anzi sara’ proprio da qui che il nostro prossimo viaggio alla scoperta degli UK avrà inizio…[:]
